Our Mission

To provide a place where Grove Park Seniors can come together and fellowship. To plan group activities at the Clubhouse which includes playing cards, watching movies, book reading, etc. To plan short trips to nearby areas of interest (seniors will be responsible for his/her cost). Coordinate professionals to come and share information with seniors on things of interest and etc.

Things of Interest

Free emergency card can easily be printed. In case of an emergency situation a medical information card could prove to be invaluable to attending medics or other medical personnel providing treatment.

Every Wednesday Kohl’s has a 15% off for all seniors, this might be a good time to wait on the things you need.

There are many activities in and around Durham that seniors might be interested in. Durham Senior Center is a very good resource for seniors who want to stay active physically and mentally. Check out their calendar. Seniors gather at the Durham Library on every Tuesday of the week for fellowship and discuss topics of interest.

Have you gotten to point that you want to leave the driving to someone else? There is a bus called Megabus which travels from Durham to Charlotte and to Washington, DC. You will be able to get a round trip ticket for as little $12 to Charlotte for two. Prices vary and if your schedule is flexiable, it is a good way to travel for less.

Senior Humor

  • A distraught senior citizen phoned her doctor’s office. “Is it true, she wanted to know, that the medication you prescribed has to be taken for the rest of my life?” Yes, I am afraid so, the doctor told her. There was a moment of silence before the senior lady replied, “I’m wondering, then, just how serious is my condition because this prescription is marked “NO REFILLS”?
  • First you forget names, then you forget faces. Then you forget to pull up your zipper. It’s worse when you forget to pull it down.
  • You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks.
